Casey Mitchell is dealing with a rare medical condition that makes her world different in Degrees of Losing by Shan Purcell. Casey’s situation allows her to remember every detail of her life. She remembers all of her past memories, which is not always a good thing. Being able to remember all of the good and bad memories start to get in the way of Casey having a normal life. Casey believes her life will always be miserable so she tries to self-medicate in all of the wrong ways. She then meets Joe, a man who makes her look at her life in a different manner.

When Casey meets Joe she believes he can is her little bit of normal because he too suffers from a medical condition, he can’t remember his past. Does he even have one? As their relationship grows, both will have to confront their wants and needs for the future. It just may mean that it futures without each other.

I truly understood that these characters shared conditions that drew them to one other, but would that be enough. The characters were well-developed, the drama was limited but the overall story was consistent. The author does a wonderful job including Joe, the intriguing character that keeps you reading the story. This was an interesting book about love and loss. I recommend it to others.
