The Church Scene by Nicole Jocleen introduces readers to Natalie, Raina, Ariel, Reggie, Gabriel, Corey and Pastor Jacobs, Individuals that are on the church scene. When Ariel is released from prison, her first thought is to attend church with her cousin, Natalie. Ariel decides she needs a change in her life. The newfound religion she has found causes others to question her. Corey is dating, Tracey, but decides that their living arrangement is against God. Tracey does not take the news well and the dynamics of their relationship changes forever.

Raina is the preacher’s kid but does not want to be reminded of it. She would rather be on the scene clubbing with the rest of the party crowd. Raina soon finds out that you have to be careful what you wish for. Natalie and Reggie are best friend who perform together. Natalie feels Reggie should know how she truly feels about him. She confesses her love but is surprised by Reggie’s reaction. Natalie tries to understand but may be Reggie just didn’t explain himself all the way.

The Church Scene was a typical relationship book with small twist that readers will see coming. I could relate to some of the characters but others did nothing for me in the storyline. Even though The Church Scene didn’t wow me, I am looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
