Author E. N. Joy takes a different approach to crazy in One Sunday At A Time. Deborah is an editor and literary agent with a loving husband and two children. Deborah is also a woman prone to mood swings and violent outburst. Deborah’s husband, Lynox starts to worry about her and asked that she seek counseling, after she accuses him of stepping out on their marriage. Deborah agrees but she is tired of psychiatrist and taking medication because she feels she can handle whatever comes her way.

When Deborah and Lynox attend his friend, Reo’s party, Lynox introduces Deborah to Reo’s wife, Klarke hoping she will build a friendship. As the ladies get to know each other Klarke because a person Deborah can fully be herself around without judgment. Klarke soon offers Deborah a remedy she uses to cope with her mental issues. Once Deborah is introduced to the remedy she realizes it is not what she had in mind but it doesn’t hurt her to try it at least one time. After trying Klarke’s remedy, Deborah takes her outburst too far, which causes her to be injured, her husband to be detained and child protection to be called.

This book touched on different issues from family, friendships, post partum depression, marriage and domestic violence. I don’t believe anyone can read One Sunday At A Time without having some sympathy and compassion for these well-developed characters.  I will say Deborah’s character frustrated me but I felt sorry for her at some points in the story. I kept praying that she would get her anger under control. This is a must read and a great addition to the Forever Divas series.
