In Wicked Summer by Roma Brooks, the Bloom sisters return to Cape Harriet to celebrate their mother’s 60th birthday. All of the family comes together for a very special occasion but also brings their everyday issues. As the story unfolds, the reader learns each sister’s story and issues that cause their pain. This book gives a glimpse into the lives of a family, who learns that everything is not great and each one has been disguising their struggles. It also shares the love and support a family is capable of giving.

It was hard for me to relate to these characters, especially Iris because her negativity was overwhelming. Having not read any of the previous books in this series, I believe put me at a disadvantage. Overall, it’s a story with familiar issues and the plot is what kept me reading the book. I recommend others read it and create their own opinions. However, I will read more by this author to get a better feel of her writing style.
