In Retaliation by Yasmin Shiraz, readers are re-introduced to the Odom’s, a family living in Washington, DC and dealing with the good and bad of the city. When Tashera Odom is attacked and hospitalized it affects her family especially her older brother, Khalil. He believes his gang affiliation has brought harm to his sister and now he must seek revenge on those who hurt her.

As Tashera recoups in the hospital, Khalil decides to reactive his membership with his former gang, Deuces Tres, to seek revenge on those who hurt his sister. Shelia Odom tries her best to keep it together for her children. When she finds out her daughter has been attacked the people involve see a different side of Shelia.

After being introduced to the Odom family in the first book Loyal, this sequel was a wonderful continuum of their story. I enjoyed this book that shares the loyalty of a brother to his sister. It had well-developed characters with unsuspected twists. The author display young adult in an urban setting most can relate to. It is a great book for young adults. I definitely recommend Retaliation to others and I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.

This book was provided by the author for review purposes only.
