A group of people are using children for their satanic rituals in Rules of the Earth by Wendy Cartmell. DCI Anderson acquires the assistance of Sgt. Major Crane to investigate a missing child case. Sgt. Major Crane is excited for the distraction especially after being releaved of duty for an injury. A young girls is found alone in a street and another found dead. Crane and Anderson are sure the cases are related and now must find out who is responsible.

Rules of the Earth had a slow pace with minor twists and turns for me. However, it is true to crime, mystery and some suspense with an unusual storyline, which only kept me reading because I wanted to know what happened with the child that survived. I really didn’t connect to the Crane or Anderson characters, but this is the first book I’ve read by this author featuring these characters. I will definitely try another book in the series to see if this changes. I recommend this book to crime and mystery readers for them to come to their own conclusion.
