Steamed Open by Barbara Ross is a cozy mystery about a coastal town in Maine and that is known for clamming. The townspeople live for the Maine Clambake each year but this year there is a problem. Mr. Frick inherits the mansion that sits on the beach, which houses where the clamming is to be held. When he blocks clammers excess everyone gets upset. and everyone gets upset. Julia Snowden tries to change his mind especially since it directly effects her family and their clam supply. When Mr. Fickle is found dead there’s enough suspects for Julia to weed through to get to the bottom of the murder.
This was an entertaining mystery with fun characters with a variety of personalities. I was unsure till the end, but enjoyed the journey of finding out who was behind everything. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Maine, which makes me want to visit even though I don’t care for seafood. The book is told from Julia’s point of view, which made me feel like I was her partner in solving the mystery. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was a very good introduction to her writing. I recommend Steamed Open to lovers of cozy mysteries.
