Book Review & Spotlight: Forbidden by Adrienne Woods

Forbidden: A Red Riding Hood Retelling

by Adrienne Woods

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance

This is not The Little Red Riding Hood we grew up with.

Supernatural races—vampires, werewolves, witches, you name it—all exist.

Eighteen-year-old Rue Chaperon and her family belong to an elite hunting society, the S.H.A—Supernatural Hunting Association—and what the Chaperons hunt best are werewolves.
When a new hunting group convinces the Chaperons to team up with them and try a different approach to hunting the supernatural by taking out the Alpha, it sounded like a great idea.
Taking out the Alpha meant they’d eradicate the entire race.
Piece of cake, right?

But nothing is ever easy when you’re a hunter.

A Little Red Riding Hood retelling with a spin that will make you believe not all fairytales were meant for children.

Forbidden is a paranormal romance based off the red riding hood fairytale. Ru and her family are hunters and have been hunting werewolves. Hunting them believing they are killing humans. A new group of hunters lead by a guy named Collin, approach Ru’s family wanting them to join forces. Collin and his crew have a hidden agenda and Ru’s family has some secrets of their own. Ru is just not aware of these secrets yet.

I like this author’s take on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. The essential parts of the fairytale like the red cloak and there being a wolf is true to the story, only Ru’s not going to grandma’s house in this one. The reveals were timed perfectly and the dynamics between Ru and her sister, Liz, brought the much needed tension to the story. The love interest and hint of romance was not over the top and complemented the storyline. The ending has me wanting more. This book is perfect for lovers of fairytales and paranormal fantasy stories.

I will definitely read more from this author.

Sneak Peek of Scarlett and the Big Bad

He cleared up the tea tray and then moved the table about a foot back from the couch before taking his seat right beside where she was standing. He spread his feet apart and took her hand. Before she understood what was happening, he pulled her over his knee.

She gulped as her hands reached out to his hardwood floor, steadying her body as her head hung down across from her shoes. She hadn’t been in such a position since she was six-years-old. “What are you doing?”

“What I have to do to keep you safe.” Her face burned with shame as he rubbed his palm across her bottom. His circular movements stirred something between her thighs, a tingling ache she hadn’t expected.

“Please don’t.” A shiver scurried up her spine as she tightened her stomach muscles, attempting to raise her torso.

As he lifted his hand, she immediately missed the weight and heat until he landed a swat across her ass. Her mouth opened on a gasp, though he hadn’t struck her hard.

He hit me! A slight sting resonated, but the pulsing beneath her skirt had intensified. Her face flamed from her cheeks to her ears, but she took consolation in him not knowing. If he could somehow see what she was feeling, the humiliation would have been unbearable. The second swat landed, followed by the third. “Ow!” More and more fell until she lost count and a slow burn built across her rear. She squirmed as the stinging amplified.

Cool air covered the back of her legs as he lifted the hem of her dress and threw it over her back. Her jaw dropped. “Wait. No.” She reached behind her, attempting to push the garment back down, but he forced her arm away, overpowering her with ease.

“You aren’t in charge here.”

Scarlett and the Big Bad

Fated Fairytales Book 1

by Sierra Brave

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance

What if Red Riding Hood invited peril and the big, bad wolf was the only hero who could save her?

Promised power and position, Scarlett Capuche left her tiny village to join the prestigious Order of the Phoenix.

Monty Blackwolf never wanted a mate, especially not a human raised on a hidden farm for blood-ritual sacrifice. But his werewolf’s heightened sense of smell drew him to Scarlett’s sweet fragrance from miles away.

Duty-bound to protect her, he will break her of her religious devotion to the magical terrorist group responsible for the murders of his parents and older brother, even if he has to put her over his knee and turn her bottom as red as her hair.

She belongs to him now, and he will claim all of her despite his affliction with a unique, third shifter-form he doesn’t fully understand and isn’t able to control.

Will Monty save Scarlett, or will he prove more dangerous to her than anyone else?

Author’s Note: If you’re offended by steamy fairytale retellings with graphic language, explicit put-you-in-the-moment love scenes, elements of power exchange, and domestic discipline, you might want to look for a different book.

Sierra Brave is a multi-published author of heart-pounding, blush-inducing romance with put-you-in-the-moment love scenes. She enjoys writing about a variety of gorgeous alpha males who can’t resist head-strong heroines. Curvy girls have a special place in her heart and often grace the pages of her books. Tales of shifters, cowboys, twisted fairy tales, space pirates, Amazon warriors, and vampires capture her imagination as do tempting spanking and ménage scenarios, but she also engages in more down-to-earth themes such as office romance. You’ll find lots of unique characters and humor in all of her stories.

Award winning author, Leslie Scott thrives in the middle of chaos. Not because she home schools her son and rides herd over the family’s zoo of indoor pets or listens to her soul mate wax poetically about all things car and related. Oh, no. That’s nothing. The real chaos is the characters in her mind, elbowing and tripping each other to get to the front of the line so they can be the next romantic couple in one of her stories. Her family is her passion. Writing is her dream.

Book Reviews

Mini Reviews: Flawless, Succubus Blues & The Good Daughter

Flawless by Heather Graham

A romantic thriller featuring a criminal psychologist and an FBI agent. Thieves are on the loose and diamonds are the treat. When Kieran stumbles into a robbery and is taken hostage, it points out that there may be two sets of thieves. I like that Kieran’s family’s pub becomes a centerpiece of the investigation. The chemistry between Kieran and the agent, Craig does not overpower the book. I liked the mystery element of the book even though the clues were easy to spot. I was surprised at the reveal because it was not who I believed it was, but I love thrillers like that. I like the author’s paranormal books but will probably stick to this series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

It would be hard living with the curse of being sexually over charged. Georgina deals with it everyday while trying to live a normal life working in at a bookstore. This book does have a mystery element with Georgina working with friends to find out who is killing vampires. Good & Evil work together in this book and the reveal was worth it. I must get the rest of the books in the series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

Audiobook

This was a disturbing book about an attack on a family that leaves a mother dead and her two daughters trying to pick up the pieces. The descriptions in this book gave a vivid visual, which made it move intense. I listened to this book on audiobook and some parts made my stomach upset. Do not get me wrong, I love a thriller that brings out emotions within me, it lets me know it was worth the read. Karin Slaughter’s writing gets under your skin, but I am all for it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
