Spotlight with Review of Dangerous Desires by Dawn Altieri

Dangerous Desires
by Dawn Altieri
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Three years after Emma Sloane’s wealthy fiance’s mysterious death, she’s finally ready to move on and pursue her own dreams. But her plans are derailed when she’s attacked outside her New York City apartment in what she thinks is a random violent incident. Then other women who look just like her start turning up dead…
Homicide Detective Jake Quinn is haunted by the one case he couldn’t solve. When he’s put in charge of a new high-profile murder case, he interviews a victim who escaped a similar attack—and to his shock it’s Emma, the former fiancée of his unsolved murder victim.
Neither expects the sparks of attraction between them. But the killer escalates, clearly targeting Emma, and Jake’s job is on the line. Can he solve this case before it’s too late for both of them?
Dangerous Desires  is  romantic suspense with a little mystery, about random  attacks on females that brings a Detective and a former victim’s fiancee together to try and solve the case.
This was a typical romantic suspense  book even though it felt like Emma and Jake fell for each other pretty quick. I did like that the two had a previous  history  with each other since  he worked on her fiance’s  case.  I also liked the mystery element throughout the book and the fact I didn’t  figure out who was behind the attacks until the end. I couldn’t fully invest in the characters but did enjoyed the plot.
Overall  it was  an interesting  read. Trying to find out who was targeting Emma  kept me engaged in the book.  It also convinced me to try more of the author’s work.
Rating: 4 Stars= Great Page Turner
A lifelong resident of northern New Jersey, Dawn Altieri has been scribbling stories practically since birth. After reaching a milestone birthday (she won’t say which one), she figured it was about time she took a shot at writing professionally.
With an overactive imagination and a slightly twisted mind, she enjoys reading dark and dangerous tales almost as much as writing them. When she’s not curled up on the sofa with her laptop, her latest story, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), she can be found volunteering in the world of animal rescue. To keep a roof over her head, she works in the printing industry as a graphic production artist. She shares her home with her husband and daughter, and a menagerie of rescued fur-babies.

Sneak Peek of A Pride of Brothers: Rick by Peggy Jaeger

“You’re really going to spend the night? Here?” she finally asked.
“And every other night until Genocardi is caught.”
She went stone still. “He doesn’t know where I live.”
“You can’t be sure of that. Neither can I, so…” He lifted his hands, palms up.
It was a wonder blood wasn’t seeping through her lips from the intense way she was biting down on her cheek.
“Look.” He leaned a hip against the sink, folded his arms across his chest. “I know you think there’s no worry or danger to you from this guy. But in my professional opinion—and please remember what I do for a living—you can never underestimate someone who’s gone off the deep end like this guy has. He may not be targeting you, may have forgotten all about you, but I seriously doubt it.”
She sighed, snuggled the cat closer, and buried her face in its fur.
“Josh can assign someone who’ll keep you as safe as I can. But do you really want someone you don’t know following you around all day? Possibly for several days?”
“God, no. I’d hate that.”
“Then isn’t it better I’m the one? You know me. You can trust me. You do trust me, right?”
Without hesitating, she replied, “Of course I do.”
He nodded again, relieved by her answer. He pushed off the counter, took a few steps toward her, and then reached out a hand to rub the cat’s neck as she was doing.
“I know this is hard for you,” he said, hiking his voice to be heard over Moonlight’s thunderous vocal vibrations. “Being invaded, having your privacy and your quiet life infringed upon. I’d be mad, too.”
“I’m not mad,” she said. “Just…inconvenienced.”
“Yeah, I get that. It won’t be for long, though, I’m sure. Your cop buddy will find Genocardi. As soon as the threat is gone, I’ll be out of your hair.”
She stared at him for a moment over the cat’s head. “You might want to grab my law book again, Bannerman.”
“Why?”
“Your argument’s pretty solid on all levels. Almost lawyer-worthy.”
“Now, there’s no need to be insulting, Abigail.” He pulled himself up to his full height and glared down his nose at her.
He was pleased when she laughed, since it had been his intent. “Go on and do whatever you need to do. I’ve got stuff to do as well,” he told her.
With one final glance at him, she moved from the kitchen, the cat still in her arms.

I’m a #contemporaryromance writer who writes #RomComs about strong women, the families who support them, and the men who can’t live without them. If I can make you cry on one page and bring you out of tears rolling with laughter the next, I’ve done my job as a writer!

#Family and #food play huge roles in my stories because I believe there is nothing that holds a family structure together like sharing a meal…or two…or ten. Dotted with humor and characters that are as real as they are loving, I bring all topics of daily life into my stories: life, death, sibling rivalry, illness and the desire for everyone to find their own happily ever after. Growing up the only child of divorced parents I longed for sisters, brothers and a family that vowed to stick together no matter what came their way. Through my books, I’ve created the families I wanted as that lonely child.

As a lifelong diarist, I caught the blogging bug early on, and you can visit me at peggyjaeger.com where I’m blogging about life, writing, and stuff that makes me go “What??!” daily.

Sneak Peek of The Rebound Effect by Linda Griffin

“Come on,” he coaxed. He kissed her again, this time with an intensity that left her both shaken and wanting more. His hand was on her breast, and he was pressed up against her. “You want to,” he said. “You know you do.”
She did, or part of her did. “No, I don’t,” she said, laughing, trying to keep things light.
“Yeah, you do.” He caressed her cheek and kissed her again. “You make me crazy. It’s been such a great evening. Let’s not end it here.”
“I’m afraid we have to.”
He kissed her again. “Come on, Teresa.” He said her name in a caressing way, as if it was the tenderest of endearments.

I was born and raised in San Diego, California and earned a BA in English from San Diego State University and an MLS from UCLA. I began my career as a reference and collection development librarian in the Art and Music Section of the San Diego Public Library and then transferred to the Literature and Languages Section, where I had the pleasure of managing the Central Library’s Fiction collection and initiating fiction order lists for the entire library system. Although I also enjoy reading biography, memoir, and history, fiction remains my first love. In addition to the three R’s–reading, writing, and research–I enjoy Scrabble, movies, and travel.

My earliest ambition was to be a “book maker” and I wrote my first story, “Judy and the Fairies,” with a plot stolen from a comic book, at the age of six. I broke into print in college with a story in the San Diego State University literary journal, The Phoenix, but most of my magazine publications came after I left the library to spend more time on my writing

My stories have been published in numerous journals, including Eclectica, The Binnacle, The Nassau Review, Orbis, Thema Literary Journal, and forthcoming in Avalon Literary Review, and and in the anthologies Short Story America, Vol. 2 and The Captive and the Dead. Four stories, including two as yet unpublished, received honorable mention in the Short Story America Prize for Short Fiction contests.

Sneak Peek of The Games We Play by Lorrain Allen

I sit on the edge of the bathtub then squeeze my eyes shut. After a few minutes, I slowly open them. I stand to undress, leaving my clothes where they fall. I slide my neon green high heels back onto my feet, and then take my red lipstick from my purse to cover my lips before opening the bathroom door. Eli has his back to me, setting up the paints and brushes. He replaced his jeans with sweat shorts. When Eli turns around and sees me, he drops the cup of paintbrushes. They scatter across the floor. His Adam’s apple visibly bobs as he swallows hard.
“I want you to paint me naked,” I tell him.
He nods.
“Where do you want to be painted?” His voice cracks.
I point to his daybed.
He bends down to retrieve the cup and the paintbrushes to place on the small table he moved by the easel. He walks over to the daybed then repositions it to lie flat. I sit on the edge, spreading my legs. Eli’s eyes immediately zero in on my moist opening. It’s easy to see that his control is slipping. I place my hands flat on the daybed, tilting back a little to open my legs further apart. Eli doesn’t move. He hasn’t taken his eyes off me from the moment he turned around to see me standing naked except for my neon high heels.
“Are you ready to start?”
Eli doesn’t respond.
“Eli.”
It’s like he’s hypnotized.
“Eli,” I call louder.
His eyes unhurriedly advance from my cunt to my face. The expression on his face terrifies and excites me at the same time. He’s opening and closing his hands at his side. His body is rigid, tight as a taut wire about to pop.
“Are you ready to start?”
His answer is to sit on the stool.
“How long will it take?” I ask softly.
Maybe I’ve taken this a bit too far. I didn’t anticipate his reaction being this strong.
“I’ll be done in a few hours,” he answers as he starts to paint.
His hand is gripped tight around the paintbrush. His first few strokes are jerky and uncoordinated. He stops painting, closes his eyes, and then takes a few deep breaths. He wipes his left hand down his face. He replaces the canvas with a new one, and then starts over. This time, his grip on the paintbrush is lighter; his strokes are purposeful and sure. Eli’s concentration is profound, the look on his face impassioned as he paints my body.
“The painting is done,” Eli says, standing.

 Book Trailer

Lorrain has enjoyed writing ever since she was a child and was also part of the poetry club in middle school. She loves to get away from the world and lose herself in a book. As a young adult, she became a romance book junky and was inspired to pen her first romance by the many creative authors whose books she’s read. She wants to provide her fans with a suspenseful read that has a twist at the end. The subject matters of her books are a little controversial, but life is boring without a little controversy.
